While cheering for both football and basketball, the cheerleaders, under Mrs. Gil’s direction, have been a positive addition to the atmosphere of each game. Not only do they show the teams that they are behind them, but they set an example for the rest of the student body of how important enthusiasm and school spirit are for our sports program at Mepham. In December they represented Mepham for the first time ever in a Nassau-Suffolk cheering competition and won a fifth place trophy.

The girls’ badminton team finished its season with a 12-0 record and a first place finish in its division to extend its 9 year record to 101 wins and 1 loss. In the Conference I individual championships, Dorothy Spataro won the third singles championship, Jeanne Campanelli and Mary Ann Smith won the fourth doubles championship, and Patti Walsh and Grace Ratto won the third doubles title. Walsh and Ratto went on to place second in the county championships. SPORTS 29
