The Pirates football team put forth a lot of time and effort to make this season an exciting and enjoyable one. Their pride and spirit enabled them to stick together to overcome the obstacles of injuries and austerity. While cheering for both football and basketball, the cheerleaders, under Mrs. Gil’s direction, have been a positive addition to the atmosphere of each game. Not only do they show the teams that they are behind them, but they set an example for the rest of the student body of how important enthusiasm and school spirit are for our sports program at Mepham. In December they represented Mepham for the first time ever in a Nassau-Suffolk cheering competition and won a fifth place trophy.
