Editor’s Foreword Editor-in-Chief Ronald Berman While planning this year's yearbook, I tried many exciting innovations that I felt would make this a truly outstanding yearbook. Many of the features introduced here, such as the color cover, dividers, arrangement of underclassmen, and teacher and student candids are the first to appear in a high school yearbook in the Long Island area. Techniques and features, though, are not the most important part of a yearbook; it is the ability of the book to hold the memories and spirit of our high school years that will prove its eventual succes. It is my hope that this publication will be able to, in twenty years, regenerate the same feelings of pride, joy, and accomplishment in ourselves, as we hold now. 24

Dedication Dr. Joseph H. Goergen In coming to serve as Mepham's principal. Dr. Joseph Goergen has brought with him many invaluable years of experience in both the business and educational fields. It is perhaps because of this versatility that Dr. Goergen was able to acquire the rare insight needed to deal successfully with the many and complex problems facing an administration today. Throughout the year. Dr. Goergen has proven himself to be an active participant both in student affairs and in enlarging the student role in school policy. He has, in fact, often sought out student opinion on various matters. It is that, his fairness, and his open-minded approach to all issues that has earned him the respect and admiration of the entire student body. It is therefore with great pleasure, that we, the Class of 1971, dedicate our yearbook, the 1971 Treasure Chest, to Dr. Joseph Goergen. 25
