Text from Pages 1 - 220 of the 1969 volume:

OUR SCENE .. . a - £9 It rattles, creaks, bellows, offers sacrifice to the gods, and cries at the footsteps of Mammon's alter. Many colors has its coat, and like fall, the rusty, cadmium brightness of its covering falls away to reveal emptiness and bareness. And then there is that flash, that fifth marking period flash of energy redoubled. ] 2 mm We’re all sitting on needles, quite uncomfortable, yet lazy and very, very sleepy. He taught Special Education at Jerusalem Avenue Junior High School later moving to Calhoun, and then finally in 1964 he arrived at Mepham. Mr. Fleischer received his Bachelor's Degree from Syracuse University in 1938. He then went on to obtain his Master's Degree from New York University in Clinical Psychology and Special Education in 1940. During the time he has been here Mr. Fleischer has done much more for Mepham than merely teach. He has served as the advisor for the Mepham Key Club since 1966 as well as acting as treasurer of the Mepham, Calhoun, Kennedy Scholarship Fund and the Parent Faculty Association. This year the Class of 1969 was privileged to have Mr. Fleischer as Senior Class Advisor. It is therefore with deep gratitude and respect that we, the Class of 1969, dedicate our yearbook, the 1969 Treasure Chest, to Mr. Martin Fleischer. 18 Dedication 19 The Senior Class of Wellington C. I have just completed one of the most enjoyable years of my life; enjoyable because I was privileged to work with a great” group of youngsters. In spite of their hip ways, there was an ever constant freshness”; a naivety; a newness; an awareness; an old-fashioned politeness; respect; honor; intelligence: a non-conformity. which achieved where others failed. I am speaking of you. seniors; you have shown me that you have what it takes”; and you can be proud of your many firsts” and accomplishments. You attained new heights and established new records. Succeeding classes have now been challenged by your record and realistic approach to the new” life. Senior planning The Senior Planning Committee is under the supervision of Mark Sadok. President of the Class of 1969. The Committee consists of two representatives elected from each senior homeroom. The committee worked with the members of Senior Sales on the ideas for the Senior Shirts and the Beanies. Another large project which Senior planning undertakes is Operation Goodwill . Through this, seniors dressed as Santa and his Elves and hand out goodies to young children. Perhaps the most important job of the committee is preparing for the Senior Prom. This year for the second time the prom is being held outside the school. The success of the prom depends on the preparations Senior Planning has provided. 112 r The Senior Sales Committee under the leadership of Martin Bunin, President, has helped tremendously in promoting school spirit among the students of Mepham. This year the members of Senior Sales took charge of selling refreshments at football games, basketball games, and wrestling matches as well as selling the all new Senior Shirts and beanies. The largest endeavor of the committee was the seventh annual Magazine Sale. This year the sale was the most successful one in Mepham’s history. Senior sales ROW 1—M. Stein. B. Levine. C. Cotton. M. To our sisters— With love from the Senior D is for the dearest friends we've made throughout the year, f is for the endless task of keeping friends so near. B is for the bosom pals whose friendship we did win. f is for the ecstatic oh how happy we have been. T is for the times we had a laugh, a love, a sigh. T is for the tears we shed for now we say goodbye. E is for the energy we had to top the rest. S is for sororities next year you'll still be best. ‘AK$ So we leave you with this poem To remember past and gone We seniors now are leaving Keep our good name on and on. INTERACT CARES Best of Luck Seniors Richard Matsil Alan Schwartz Carl Bank Jeff Braff Scott Azie Vin Della Speranza Alan Gershel Steve Goldner Neal Gordon Jim loli Mitch Koshers Joel Levine Chris Marino Doug Morgan Tom Roche Looking back on those Delta years, I can't help but shed a few tears. Tears of memories that fill my heart. Memories from which I'll never part Wednesday would be colored Red and White, We'd hold our meetings 7 at night. And during the days our sweaters could be seen. Each bearer's face would show a gleam. Picnics and parties throughout the year. The sound of our song, I still can hear. We would sell our candy and knock on doors. Even sold cupcakes by the stores. We are proud of our sorority. For contributing to many a charity. But most of all. I'll remember my sisters Around always to help each other. Overcome one problem and another.
