Mr. Raymond Weaver Mr. Weaver came to Mepham when the school opened in 1937. Before he came here, he taught at Springs, a 'small place near East Hampton. Prior to his profession as a counselor, he was a social studies teacher; and at times, he taught general science and other topics. He became a guidance counselor in 1958. He was the first Mepham debate coach, and he was also a rifle coach. He was chosen as a delegate to represent the teachers in the New York State Teachers’ Association. He is a member of the governing body, which is a part of the retirement system. We are grateful to Mr. Weaver for his contribution to Mepham, and he will be missed by all. 13

Dedication Kenneth Hunte is probably the most able and experienced coach in Nassau County, a fact he has proven as leader of Mepham's wrestling and soccer teams. He graduated from Mepham in 1947 and then entered Syracuse University; where in 1949 and 1950, he won the Eastern Intercollegiate Championship and the trophy for most valuable wrestler. He also played varsity lacross. Coach Hunte was second in both the National Intercollegiate Tournament and the National A.A.U. He graduated with a BA in education in January 1952 and went on to receive an MA degree from Syracuse in 1954. Coach Hunte taught fifth grade at Winthrop Avenue School from 1952-1954. In 1954, he moved to District Three and became the first coach and teacher at Jerusalem Avenue Junior High School. He later came to Mepham High in the same capacity. In 1958, he took over when Frank Sprig” Gardner left as wrestling coach. Coach Hunte has made our wrestling team one of the finest and most famous teams in the county and state. With all of this, he managed to serve in the United States Navy. It is therefore with deep gratitude and respect that we, the Class of 1968. dedicate our yearbook, the 1968 Treasure Chest, to Coach Kenneth Hunte. 14
