Our individual district would never be able to function without the excellent direction given to it by the Board. In the coming years, the responsibility placed on the Board of Education will continue to increase at the tremendous rate it has in the last few years. The number of new schools is already an amazing figure, and it is expected that this num- ber will rise even higher. We, as the students of Mepham High School, probably owe the greatest amount of thanks to the Board. We donit get many chances to ex- press our gratitude, and so we therefore take this opportunity to offer our sincere thanks to Mr. Raymond D. Hansen, President, Mr. Clement J. Truitt, Vice President, Mr. Frank W. McCar- thy, Mr. Edward Lehman, Mr. Charles Schadt, Mr. Frederick Froelichg Mr. John B. King, Mr. Charles A. Reinhardg Mr. Bernard Morris, At- torney, Mr. John Mahan, Treasurer g Mrs. Irene T. Smith, District Clerk. Board of Education SEATED: Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Truitt, Mr. Hansen, Mr. Reinhard, Mr. King. Braun The year 1960 was the second year in which Cen- tral High School District Number Three has consisted of five schools, two senior and three junior high schools. Such a complex system requires level-headed leadership and firm administration. Mr. Julius C. Braun, Principal of the District, has more than ex- ceeded the demands of such a taxing responsibility. Mr. Braun came to Central High School District Number Three from the high schools of Buffalo three years ago, succeeding Mr. Calhoun as Principal of the District. At that time the district was comprised of the Merrick and Jerusalem Junior High Schools and the Mepham Senior High. Yet the next year, when the Sanford H. Calhoun High School and the Grand Avenue Junior High School were opened, Mr. Braun's untiring efforts were best displayed, for on his capable shoulders lay the burden of staffing and administer- ing these two new schools, Our most important years are spent at high school, for the future of our country depends on the nation's youth. Mr. Braun, as Principal of our District, has inspired our students to new heights with hopes for even greater achievements in the coming years. His philosophy concerning the development of potential citizenship will be of even greater significance in the tremendous expansion of our district expected in the years to come. Mr. Braun has always believed that the education of our youth will lead to a better- informed citizenry to meet the growing demands of our democratic way of life.
