In the largest city in I.ake County, 1700 students roll out of bed each morning, eat, dress, and board tlieir buses headed for Mentor High. If the day is bright, one ran see the Stars and Stripes floating over the campus. Too soon the eight o’clock bell sends distraught students scurrying to their homerooms. After an immortal “Thought for the Hay,” the never ending process of learning begins. Soon a third period study hall gives way to thoughts of forthcoming lunch periods. After this short time of laughter, chatter, and broken bottles, the school resumes its atmosphere as a home of knowledge. The halls are filled with the odor of another blunder in the chem lab or a whizsing experiment from the physics department. An ominous hush breaks into a small riot after the long awaited “that's all concludes the day. There is a mad scramble for a seat on the bus, and when the dust settles you find yourself seated beside one of—Our Gang. 4

Dedication ♦ ♦ ♦ MR. OREN CASEY As a token of our appreciation, we, the class of '64, dedicate this volume to one who exemplifies dedication. He has been teaching mechanical-drawing shop at Mentor for 32 years. His foremost ambition is to produce young men not only versed in the field of drawing but also eager to cross the threshold of the game called life. His pioneering efforts in forming the Mentor Teachers Association have earned statewide recognition. He has also been the State President of the Ohio Education Association's Department of Classroom Teachers. For these efforts and your dedication to Mentor High, we dedicate to you, Mr. Oren T. Casey, the 1964 Cardinal Notes. 3
