Students Faced Elections With Realism J. Bryan portraying Lucy Baines Johnson For the first time, the M. H. S. student body held a November election. Preceding the election a mock political con- vention was held with all the realism of a political campaign. Sophomore speech students portrayed the presidential candidates, members of the candi- dates' families, or close friends of the candidates. Members of the student body took part in the mock convention by displaying tneir enthusiasm for their favorite candidate. Music, confetti, and posters were everywhere. Following the convention, the senior govern- ment students took their places at the polls as sher- iffs, clerks, judges, watchers, challengers, poll book keepers, as well as the many other jobs of an election. The M. H. S. student body elected national, state, and county officers. They elected their homecoming representatives on the local ballot. The November mock election is only one way in which the students are learning to become better citizens of tomorrow. M. H. S. students taking part in the mock convention
