The gym was transformed into a pink and white fairyland complete with a stony castle and Cinderella 's pump- ltin coach. Mr. Abbott, ,Toe Kettner, and Bill Witt survey the stock. Joe and Bill look over and select their foundation gilts in the pig project known as Operation Porkchop. These selected pigs will reproduce into good meat type breeding hogs. Theywillmake it easy for the boys to get started inraising swine herds as hog enterprises. This, however, is only one of the activities ir1 the famiing programs which gives the future famiers a chance to meet their c1ub's requirement without investing money. DUING T0 LEARN Of course, as in every other chib, meetings had to be conducted and money saved. Larry Schlough and Tom Buckley deftly handled these jobs. Scholarship, recreation, and general activities all held their own on the docket. LaVern Weber and Roger Sipple cul- minated their high school F.F.A. careers when they received the four-year-sea1Jun- ior Dairyman's Award as well as the Wis- consin Farmer Degree. As the greenhands advanced to chap- ter farmers, they learned to do as they did to learn, and learned to live as they TOP RIGHT: The Foundation awards were given for exceptional work in six fields. The recipients and their awards were: D. Mclntyre, Soil and Water, W. Cook, Dairy, L. Weber, Electrificationg R. Sipple, Star Farmer, L,SchlouQh,Mechanics. MISSING, J. Shannon, Safety. BOTTOM RIGHT: The highlight of the year was the parent-SOD banquet. At the head table are: D. Abbott, 1958-59 state treasurerg R. Christy, state president, G. O'Brien, Honorary Farmer, A..-X bbott, local adviser, L. Weber, local president, his parents, Air. and Mrs. William Weber, K. Stainer, outstanding 4-H and F.F.A. mem- ber. lived to serve. 7-7
