The backfield men were given in charge to Mr. Lund a backfield star on Carroll's State Champion team. The line was taken charge of by Mr. Pollock After three weeks of calisthenics and signal drill we engaged our first opponents with high regards to a successful season for 1929. Menomonie opened its 1929 football season with a victory over Colfax. The game the first half was a tie the last half we shoved over four touchdowns due to some good ball carrying and interference The final score was 25-13 in our favor. It looked as if a successful season was at hand Seventy-Six BRAKER:-Has played four years of football for M. S. He proved to be a TEAM PERSONAL PUHL Playing end and tackle he was a good man on defense getting many tackles BAXTER After striving for two years very hard he became a lett r man in his Senior year He was a fast man on his feet and was a good blocker CHAMBERLAIN Tried for three years to make the team and succeeded when he became a Semor He was one of the upholders at the middle of the llne MEYER Playing his first year of football for M H S showed he was a good man at sending passes to the ends He will be back next year around which a backfield must be built HENDRICKSON Guard Another Senior worked three years before he gained recognition as a Guard position STORY OF THE SEASON CContmuedj Coach Pollock took his fellows to River Falls to try and avenge the defeats handed Menomonie for five years. The game was a struggle from whistle to whistle. There was a little time left to play and we were in a scoreless tie when a long pass to Hylland, and a plunge by Capt. Braker took it over. We had won our first victory in five years over the Falls by 7-0. Chippewa came here with a strong eleven which was set on win- ning this game. Menomonie was just as determined. The first half Chippewa got two counters before our fellows got down to business. The second half the fellows outplayed Chippewa but could not get the oval over for a counter. Menomonie could not score and the game ended in Chippewas favor 12-0. Hudson came here with a scrappy bunch of fighters. Menomonie seemed listless and sluggish and disappointed the fans who had seen the Falls contest. Hudson fought from start to finish and received as their reward, the game, which ended in their favor 13-6. The fellows played good ball the first half but in the second half everything went wrong, and Eau Claire scored when given the chance. Our inability to take advantage of scoring position lost the game 27-0. The Irish were host to us in our next game. The game was fairly even for a few minutes but suddenly the officials started penalizing Menomonie for many losses while the Irish were penalized but once throughout the whole game. The score for Menomonie came in the last quarter. New Richmond defeated us 19-6. Our final game of the season was with Barron. This game meant the final game for thirteen of Menomonie High School letter men and also for six reserves. The game started with Barron pushing one over the first 3 minutes. Then our boys got busy and put it over, making the final ending of the season for 19 fellows a pleasant one. Score 14-13.
