Since that time, M.B.C.I. teams and supporters have offered nothing but praise for this fine athlete. Willy has starred on Varsity Basketball teams for the past four seasons and Volleyball teams for the past three years. Last year, while only in Grade 11, Willy was selected to the Manitoba Junior Men’s All Star Volleyball team which com¬ peted in the Winter Games in Quebec City. Also, in Grade 11, Willy was chosen to the Second All Star team in the Provincial Basketball Championships. This year Willy provided the inspiration for terrific seasons for both the Volleyball and Basketball teams in our school. He has been rated as one of the best in the province in both sports. Willy has also been the leading golfer and high jumper in our ranks in past seasons. We salute Willy for a tremendous contribution to M.B.C.I. athletics and for the lasting inspiration he has provided for our future athletes. The fact that Willy was under terrific pressure from other schools to play for them this year and that he still chose M.B.C.I., makes us all the more proud of Willy. — Mr. Bruce Enns 41 ; t | t f | f f i f f $ i 9 f ft ,| $ I M | ?J til f)M f I . ? f -f f f l f ? f f } | I I i 1 11 f w •? • if Hf t.rMT i n f f! 42 43 ,_ a Bl 1 % rt 1 JUHKLiJ f ||ij g f J ' £££. MEN’S WEAR 371 Portage Avenue “DRESS FOR SUCCESS” Phone WHitehaU 2-6892 I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to those who have made this yearbook pos¬ sible. X would like to thank the photographers, Mr. Toews and Mr. Napolean, for their patience; Mr. Earl Schmidt, our printer; the advertisers, who made this yearbook possible; the teachers, for enduring many in¬ convenient interruptions; the classroom reps, especially Irene Redekopp, for their help; Miss Siemens, for her contributions; Darlene Toews for the cover design; the sponsors, Mr. Schroeder and Mr. Klassen, for their ad¬ vice and constant encouragement; the Ads Committee, for the marvellous job they accomplished; and Irene de- Pehr, ass’t editor, for her moral support and help when the going got rough. Last, but definitely not least, I would like to thank Paul Janzen, Ads Manager and Photographer, who could be depended on at all times. We have attempted to create a bo ok which would be meaningful to each one of you, but to many it will be a treasured souvenir of a deeply rewarding experience. ELAINE ENNS 82 TO MR. THIESSEN — OUR PRINCIPAL You have been here 10 years now. Are they long years or short years? You have shared many experiences with us, and with our predecessors. We have caused you a great deal of worry, a great deal of sorrow, but we hope we have also given you some joy. You have learned to know us. Each year, new characters are added to the previous ones. You know the quiet ones, the aggressive ones, the happy ones, the sad ones. You have come to know the leaders, but also those who sit back and take things as they come. You have come to realize that every person has some fault, but also, that each and every person has some worthy attribute. Yes, you have gotten to know us! You may even know some things about us, that we, ourselves, do not know. But while you have been learning to know us, we have been observing you. We see you first, as the principal of our school — the father of our family. A master hand con¬ trolling all the switches. We then come to see you as our teacher. In classes — punctual, extremely organized; quiet, but stem; kind, but almost distant. Some have learned to know you as their coach — hardworking, encouraging, jovial. As a staff sponsor — censoring when censor¬ ship was needed; but never meddling. We have also come to know you as a person. To some — a wise counsellor; to others — a fun loving friend. We have come to know your serious nature, as well as your keen sense of humour. Our relationship to you has been formal. We have come to respect you; not only because of your position, but because of your character. Our relationship to you has also been informal. We have come to love you as our friend and advisor. To an outsider, this may seem foolish and wordy, but we know you will understand its content. We hope, through this note, you will grasp the appreciation we feel, but somehow cannot express. Thank-you, Mr. Thiessen. 83 I
