The Eskimo’s Kayak required skill lo handle and was used for hunting seal and walrus. The frame was made jf jrjJSBk of driftwood, or even animal bones when necessary, and ihe women of ihe village scraped the animal skins and sewed them onto the craft. All the hunting equipment . . . harpoons, coiled line, dans and knives were secured on the lop front of the Kayak. Now, however, even the Eskimo ' s hunting methods are modernized and he uses a motor boat with outboard motor. The Kayak that belongs to yesterday, with ihe romance of the colorful Eskimo life, is preserved in the Bay ' s Historical Exhibit on ihe Fourth Floor. See it next time you visit the Bay!

The great increase in students this year called for a more extensive sports program than ever before. With Mr. Thiessen’s guidance, the sports committee tried to satisfy everybody sportswise. At the beginning of the year, a football and basketball team were organized for the boys while volleyball and basketball was set up for the girls. The coming of winter saw curling and hockey take the sports spotlight. Our two teams in the Manitoba high school curling bonspiel almost captured one of the four events. In hockey, the M.B.CJ. Flyers played about 20 exhibition games throughout the province winning over half of them. A house leage was also organized and the schedule was completed with rousing success. The warmer spring weather also ushered baseball and tennis into the sports picture. We, as sports committee, believe that we have had the best year sportswise in our school’s history and we thank all those who helped make it a success. John Rademaker
