THE 1959 SPECTRUM DEDICATION In sincere appreciation of your service at this school, we wish to dedicate this “Spectrum” to you, Mr. Letkemann. You have not only been a teacher to us, but also a good friend and positive Christian example. May you recall with pleasure, your days at the M.B.C.I. PRINCIPAL ' S MESSAGE WHAT SEEK YE? This was the first question Christ asked of man, which is recorded for us in the scriptures. Their response, “Lord, where dwellest thou?’’ does not indicate an evasion of the question, but rather a realization that they could find the answer to this question only from an intimate and prolonged contact with their newly found master. Their zeal in bringing others to Christ and their untiring and devoted service to Him following this fellowship is conclusive evidence of the fact that they found a completely satisfying answer. Christ had inspired them and given a new purpose to their life; their efforts were re-directed by Him into a new and better quest. Our prayer is that the past school term may have, in some measure, inspired many of us in like manner. We too, have had opportunities to fellowship with Him. May we have been influenced to SEEK FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness”. If we shall do so we have His promise that “all these things shall be added unto you.” Le. those essential things that we have such a tendency to seek first. May God grant this grace especially to our graduates. May you, like the disciples, realize that you too require this intimate, prolonged and repeated contact with Him in order to be, at all times, correctly orientated in your search for the real values in life. Then you too will be of service to God and man. This shall be our prayer for youl H. VISCH B.A. B.R.E. GRADE TWELVE CLASS REPORT Last September we entered die “gates of knowledge” determined to make our last year the best of alL Now, as we pause in retrospect, we realize that it has been just that. Through our morning devotions, religion classes, and prayer meetings we have gained a better understanding of God, His ways, and what we owe Him. We are thankful to Mr. Regehr, our class teacher, and to the other teachers for their wonderful guidance and positive Christian example. Our social activities consisted of several class parties which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. The highlight was the presentation of our drama, “Flachsmann als Erzieher”. The climax will be graduation - another mile-stone along the path leading us to our goaL Then one day in June we will enter the doors of the MJ3.C.I. for the last time. During the past year, many lasting friendships have been formed. We will always remember the good times and the spiritual fellowship we had together. Lois Wiebe VALEDICTORIES Parents, teachers, fellow students and friends of the MJ3.CJ. We, the graduates of 1959, have come to a climax in our life at the M.B.C.I. Our faces express the joy of completing a task, but our hearts sense the sadness of parting from this institution and from the many friends we have learned to know. If we compare our life to a book, the years spent at the M.B.CJ. would be one chapter in that book. We are about to bring this chapter to a close, and nothing will be added or subtracted from it. As we look back on this chapter of our lives, we recall many blessings, as well as many hours of hard work. The devoted effort, the personal interest, and the spiritual assistance of the teachers have impressed us greatly. The higher purpose of life has become more real to us. Therefore on behalf of the graduates I would like to express our appreciation for what you, the teachers, have done for us. May God richly bless you for your efforts and sacrifices on our behalf. We definitely owe a word of thanks to our parents and many friends who have made it possible for us to attend an institution such as this. Now as our last words in this chapter at theM.B.C.I., we would challenge our fellow students with the words: “Raise high your flag upon the hill Hold fast your faith and hold until God’s truth wins as it will.’’ THE SCHOOL BOARD BACK ROW, Left to Right: P. J. Froese, G. Penner, J. Rademaker, J. H. Epp, J. Dick, MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL BOARD The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and knowledge of the holy is understanding. Proverbs 9:10 There is today a great drive on all ends of the world for more knowledge and understanding. Wisdom is not always stressed. Even in our own Province many people are becoming more conscious of the need for a greater effort for education if we are to keep astride with other countries. The above quotation tells us that Wisdom understanding and knowledge are sometimes sought after in the wrong way and places. Our churches also realize the need for more learning. They are willing to stand behind the undertaking of the M.B.CJ. It is their wish that many young people should learn to know the holy one. That they might get much knowledge and understanding in our institution. But that above all they will learn the true source of all knowledge. H. Redekopp “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom . . . Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.” Prov. 4:7,13. Processers of Registered and Certified Seed Morden Manitou GRADE ELEVEN CLASS REPORT Our grade eleven class contains forty-seven many different and rather peculiar personalities. There are those who enjoy ardent study and then there are others who would rather spend their time talking and cracking jokes. Certain people even resort to throwing little pieces of paper around the room. However, this is not always the case. When the bell rings at five minutes to nine, we scramble to our seats. Mr. Visch then enters the room, picks up the yardstick, and slams it on the desk with all his might. (Believe it or not, the yardstick has not yet broken.) This serves as a last call for those who are not yet quite awake. They jump up with a start and finally we are all ready for a day of work. About two minutes pass and we have just nicely started our German lesson when a f ew latecomers straggle into the room. (By the way, there is a tall blond fellow who was late almost every day for awhile. However after a few hours of shovelling snow after four, he has become wise and now he is generally early.) Now we really begin to concentrate. Before we know it, the 3:20 bell rings and we quickly pack up our books and leave for home. We have had many enjoyable times this year and it is our sincerest desire that we mayhavegrown spiritually in this Christian High School. Also, on behalf of Gr. XI, I would like to extend congratulations to the grads of ‘59 and wish them God’s blessing in the future. Anne Marie Dick ANSWER TO VALEDICTORY On behalf of the undergraduates of the M.B.C.I. I would first of all like to extend my congratulations to you, the members of this year’s graduating class. Today marks the completion of twelve years of study. Your graduation is the culmination of all the strivings and efforts you have put forth in achieving this goal. You have all experienced unique cir¬ cumstances, frustrations, and triumphs in approaching this event. During the past school year each of you have had the opportunity of working together with the other members of your class, and also with us, the junior students. We feel certain that we have profited by this association. You have always shown to us the unity of purpose, and the cooperation which we look for in a senior class. Diversities of character, and uniqueness of personality, have never threatened the bonds which held your class together. Graduation therefore, marks a group as well as an individual, achievement. On the other hand, this event can be considered in the light of the fact that graduation also embodies your commencement exercises. Actually this is the initial step which will take each of you in characteristic and divergent ways. Together with your parents and friends we join in wishing you that measure of success which God has chosen to grant to you in your vocation. In the next school year we of the grade eleven class, will endeavor to prove ourselves worthy of the challenge and the responsibilities which we accept from the present senior class. GRADE TEN A ClASS REPORT After a confused beginning, the small but boisterous grade 10A class ended up in the former library. The library was dark and dingy. To brighten things up, it was washed and painted. Sometimes we were aided by detention boys. Finally everyone got down to real studying. We were aided by numerous study periods but our typing, which was to be done at home, evened everything out again. Hard work which prevails in our room has been lightened by the humorous jokes or remarks by a few students. Even Mr. Konrad has added to the cheerfulness in our room by his occasional joke or fantastic story. After a long wait, we had our first party. It was a toboganning party highlighted by a film. Grade 10A has participated faithfully in all events. Our prayer meetings on Tuesday mornings have been a real blessing to us. The year has proven to be a prosperous one in which everybody has added to his wisdom both in the educational and spiritual field. JAKE THIESSEN GRADE TEN B CLASS REPORT As we gathered in our classroom on the first day of school, feelings of excitement and success seemed to pervade the atmosphere. Excitement about what was to happen to us, and success because we were now in grade ten. Although the year has not always held excitement, especially for the teachers, it has certainly been successful. The hours of enjoyment have not been few. Our first class “social” was a real success in spite of our long wait. Our favorite periods were of course P.T. and the spares; our favorite day - Friday. We also had a lot of fun celebrating the birthdays of some of our teachers. But, school was not all play. There was also a lot of hard work. After Christmas we started a First Aid Course which everyone t ook very seriously. We also took up Shakespeare’s play “King Henry IV”, which we didn’t take quite as seriously. Add up all the hard work and all the good times and you realize that we have had a model school year. DAVE REDEKOPP Compliments of CENTRAL CREDIT APPLIANCES 499 Notre Dame Ave. Ph. Student body prayer meetings took place every Wednesday after school; and the classroom prayer meetings were held Tuesday morning We are thankful to God for answered prayers and the love He bestows upon us constantly. James said, “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Dave F riesen THE BIBLE WEEK “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of J esus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7. When we think back to the Bible Week (November 10-15), the thought of how God worked through his servant, Rev. Abe Regier, again becomes a reality to us. His sermons were appropriately directed to those who needed spiritual help. Preceding and throughout this week, concerned students from various classes formed special prayer groups which gave rise to the spirit of the meetings. During the last service, when opportunity was given for testimonies, many spoke of a renewed relationship with their Saviour. We are truly grateful to the Lord for the privilege of having had Rev. The great increase in students this year called for a more extensive sports program than ever before. With Mr. Thiessen’s guidance, the sports committee tried to satisfy everybody sportswise. At the beginning of the year, a football and basketball team were organized for the boys while volleyball and basketball was set up for the girls. The coming of winter saw curling and hockey take the sports spotlight. Our two teams in the Manitoba high school curling bonspiel almost captured one of the four events. In hockey, the M.B.CJ. Flyers played about 20 exhibition games throughout the province winning over half of them. A house leage was also organized and the schedule was completed with rousing success. The warmer spring weather also ushered baseball and tennis into the sports picture. We, as sports committee, believe that we have had the best year sportswise in our school’s history and we thank all those who helped make it a success.
