A REVIEW Y THE SEA Sea gulls, Sailing o’er The tumbling ocean waves On wings of grace, as arrows Black, then gold, Dip down to cool their silvery wings In ocean spray; Then soar up high, Yea, higher than the clouds, To join a thousand others there. Grey rocks Unchanged stand Down through the centuries; Though winds and ocean O’er them break With forceful weight and thundering cry. Alone and motionless They lend themselves .without reserve Unto the Sea. The Sand, Warmed by The sun’s hot rays, Unkept by rising ocean tides Which come and go And drive the drift wood and the sea shells up, Is soft and comforting to me As full of wonderment I stand, And from my vantage point Obeserve the Sea. — Martha Bergen The editor’s reply •‘Companion” in production Directions from the assistant editor. M E D I C A L A I D The Medical Aid Association has been founded in accordance with the exnor- tation in Galatians 6:2, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” The purpose of the association is to promote good health among the students, to main¬ tain a high standard of sanitation in the campus buildings, to provide first aid, to practise preventative medicine, and to assist in the financial settlement of the medical expenses which are incurred. The student body was not altogether spared illness this year. Several casual¬ ties were due to the extreme activity of students. The consequence was loss of co¬ ordination of limbs. Resulting sprains were painful and convalescence was slow. The ambitious student, in his unending search after knowledge and in his continuous concentration, suffered from either of two extremes — insensibility to subject matter or pounding headache. Diversion of activity with the aid of an aspirin soon brought the desired relief. Surgery and wearisome hours in the hospital were the lot of others. The common cold and digestive disorders have made inroads among the student body as well. Members suffering from major afflictions or minor discomforts have, however, through treatment, medication, and reassurance made satisfactory recoveries. We owe our thanks to God for the protection we have experienced and the health we have enjoyed this year. Louise Koop
