MR. J. J. TOEWS Staff Advisor Left to right — Jake Pauls, Jake Wichert, Lillian Stobbe Ferdinand Toews, George Dirks (Chairman), Herman Voth Leo Siemens, Erna Block and Rudi Schnitzler A goodly number of our students have had little or no experience in any type of church work prior to their coming to College. Issuing from the importance of the church’s God-given assignment, we are under constant moral obligation to seek greater effectiveness in our handling of the Word of Truth. This cannot be done merely by acquiring countless facts and theories; we must consciously and constantly apply ourselves in the arena of practical experience. This may sometimes become wearisome, never¬ theless, if we desire to handle the Word rightly, as we do, we cannot afford to by-pass this priceless opportunity of training for service through service. We dare not look upon our labour solely as an opportunity to advance our own training — the very purpose of the Christian life far transcends such a narrow and selfish goal. While we do not wish to emphasize our ministry beyond-the limits of its importance, we do wish to say, and that humbly, that we are “striving together for the faith of the gospel” (Philip- pians-1.27). “For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10.45). We have been entrusted with a commission — to present the unsearchable riches of Christ to those who are being carried away to death — and it is our desire to fulfill this obligation which we have received from the Lord.
