Robert Ayers Frank Bettencourt Arthur Boettcher William Loftus Sam Lugonja BOYS' P. E. DEPARTMENT There are many sports offered to the high school boy of Menlo' Atherton. In his freshman and sophomore years, he can play basketball, flashball, or swim, and in his junior or senior years, a boy can learn the strategic secrets of flagball, softball, speedball, and basketball, which is offered all four years. A sight which may seem strange, but which is just another trick of Sam Lugonja's, is havingkthe boys learn modern dance, while the modern dance class of girls is taught fby Samj that energetic game of football Qmaybe we'll have a girl on the varsity team yet! Not pictured are: Robert Gaughran and William Whitaker. ART DEPARTMENT You don't need to be an expert artist to enroll in one of the many art courses offered in the Art Department. These students, who feel they are artistically inclined or who desire to learn' more about this field, look forward to the period when they will walk down wing to their art class. Soft music is played over the interfcom, and one works at a very leisurely but accomplishing pace, either drawing the latest fashions, sketching a fellow class mate, fashioning a pottery bowl for mom for Christmas, landscape drawing, or learning lettering. General Art, Figure Drawing, Applied Art, Freehand Drawing, Fine Art, and Commercial Art are offered. Mr. McKennee is the department head. .
