This year a new addition to the departments curricuf ' lum was a lab science course which encompassed both physical Mar McLainathiin ulian Polon and biolo ical sciences. As in the ast, Menloffktherton was a ain Y E P E proud to have produced a superlative Science Fair. Head of the department is Mrs. Mary McLanathan. WL' Harry Woiig COMMERCIAL DEPARTMENT This department is one in which you will find the College Prep student, the Business major, the future stenographer, or the student taking one of the many courses just for the sheer enjoyment and personal satisfaction. This year, a new course taught by Mr. Sayle, was added 3 Business Law and Salesman- ship. In addition to the teaching of shorthand, typing, business arithmetic, general ofhce practice, and business law and salesmanship, the Commercial Department helps many organizations with programs for plays and school ac' tivities. The English Department is one of the largest with eighteen teachers on the stai'l'. These teachers all work together, encouraging students to enter poetry or essays in the school literary magazine, Oak Leaves. Awards are given to those students who are recognized as having submitted outstanding work in this publication. The major ohjective in English is to enlarge one's ahility to read with understanding, to speak with clarity, to write effectively, and to develop an appreciation for literature hoth through a study of selected classics and a leisure reading program. Head of the English Department this year was Mr. Marvin Shaw. Not pictured are Adolph Hansen, Ruth McGeehan, and Patricia Rowland.

HOMEMAKI NG DEPARTMENT For those girls who want to go into the field of home economics, or who just want to learn the art of sewing and cooking, the Homemaking Department is quite complete.
