MILDRED MARGARET CHARLOTTE LIONEL WARREN BRIGGS GEORS GIBSON GOULARTE JENSEN ALBERTA DONALD MARTIN SAYLE 1? '-QQ JAMES WALKER 26 ,ommereial Department In N-wing the clickfclack of the typewriters is an omnipresent sound. College Prep students, business majors, and students taking typing solely for their own enjoyment may be found here, The hunt and peck system is frowned upon and students gradually increase both their speed and accuracy. As they progress in their typing skills, students learn the correct form for business letters, applications, and invitations, In Nfwing also can be located tomorrow's stenographers. Taking dictation at any rate from 40 to 120 words per minute are these shorthand students. Although some students take shorthand to be able to take notes on college lectures, most of the students in these classes plan on becoming secretaries. Business English is also a class offered in N-wing. Here students learn where and when to use a dollar sign in business letters among many other things. The Commercial Department also prints programs and other mimeographed data for other departments. Mrs. Briggs is the department head. Homemaking Department As you walk down Kfwing the buzzing of machines, the snipping of scissors, and the chatter from mouths full of pins greets your ears. Under experienced guidance, many students learned the basic fundamentals of domestic science. Tricks of the trade were taught in Clothing and Foods. While the students in the cooking classes were learning to boil, broil, fry, and steam, the students in the sewing classes were learning to cut, pin, sew, and baste. Much time went into beautiful garments made by our future seamstresses. While not so much time went into the making of those culinary delicasies made by the foods classes, the meals they prepared were delicious! The preparation of meals, salads, meats, and desserts was good experience for tomorrow's cooks. These advisors and teachers have helped to build the homemakers of tomorrow.
