Crowning the Queen, Jill Mays, and the King, John Miller, was the Junior sponsor, J. D. Trimble. Mr. Trim- ble also crowned the Princess, Missy Back, and Prince, Scotty Rose. The night was filled with dancing and laughter. Everyone came home with a lot of memories. 27 28 29 MAY DAY On May 6, 1983, Raymond Bryant and Nancy Morphew were crowned king and queen of the May Day. The theme for the 1983 May Day was a Hawaiian theme. There were Hawaiian dancers, a rock band, and many other activ- ities to entertain the King and Queen. The King and Queen were very happy and will probably remember the day for the rest of their lives. Alan and Keith took a train ride through Indian territory but returned safely. Of course, cotton candy is a must—at least Sarah and Theresa thought so! And Nancy loved the ice cream! Teresa and Lindsey took a ride on the sky lift. After a wonderful day at Camden Park it was time to go home. Unfortunately, the bus broke down on the inter- state. But even the 2?-hour wait by the side of the road was memorable for the class of 1983. 33 EIGHTH GRADE GRADUA TION Valedictorian Michael Hunt Angie Lovelace presented Mrs. Emogene Combs a plaque from the eighth grade. Mrs. Combs retired at the end of the year. The students in grades K-6 dressed like characters from their favorite books. Shown on this page a few of the students who participated in the book fair. The students really enjoyed seeing their teachers dress like characters from books. A highlight of the book fair was the program the students planned and per- formed for Open House on April 19. The introduction was done by Kristie Fannin. The reading of Paul Revere's Ride was by Kevin Spencer. Skits were done by: Mrs. Thomas' class, Mrs. Adams' class and Mrs. Botts' class. Studying hard DEDICA TION This year our yearbook is dedicated to Vivian DeRosett, Mr. Walters' secretary, who has been working in the Menifee County School System since 1965. We students do not often see Ms. DeRosett because her work is done at the Central Office, but we know that she puts in a lot of hours working for the benefit of the school and the students. We really appreciate her dedication to the school system. Ms. DeRosett has two children, Trent and Monica. Trent is working as a draftsman in Lexington. Monica is married to Rick Tackett. They have two children, Jessica and Tabitha. In addition to working at the superintendent's office, Ms. DeRosett does many other things. Among her hobbies are crocheting, sewing, quilting, and reading. Thank you, Ms. DeRosett, for caring about us and for working so hard for our benefit. 64 FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION 65 Mr. Hiram C. Is this what it's really like being the class clowns? Come on Lori, let them throw the ball! The 4-H Fall Festival was held on October 20, 1983, at Botts Elementary School. This event involved all sorts of activities for the students and teachers from Menifee and Botts schools. Some of these activities were: pie throw (Seniors), sponge throw (Computer Club), bobbing for apples (BETA), pac-man dart throw (Yearbook Staff), Haunted House (Cheerleaders), and a tic-tac-toss (FBLA). The crowning of the king and queen was also a very impor- tant event. Sam, didn't your dad ever teach you how to put your shaving cream on? I bet you can't do that again! Oh no, here comes another one! What's the big deal about pick- ing up ducks? If I have to lie to one more person, I'll just ........i Isn't life just grand? FBLA Officers: Missy Back, President; Carolyn dones, Vice President; Lisa Hale, Secretary; Michelle Robertson, Treasurer; David Blevins, Parliamentarian; Van Becraft, Reporter; Tonya Mullins, Historian. David Blevins and Brenda Lawson received their Assis- stant Degrees this year in FBLA. The Future Business Leaders of America is a national organization consisting of high school students enrolled in business and office programs. The goals of the FBLA are to develop character, to develop competent business leaders, to prepare students for useful citizenship, and to foster patriotism. This year the FBLA toured the Mountain Rural Tele- phone Company to observe a business firm at work. They also attended the Regional Conference at Morehead State University. They par- ticipated in the 4-H Fall Festival in October, and at Christmas they gave toys to a child. I would like to thank the staff for their hard work both after school and in their study halls. Speaking for the staff, as well as myself, I would like to express our thanks to Elaine Brown and Mary Sue Snedegar for giving us the guidance needed to put the 1984 Wildcat together. We would also like to thank Mr. Dennis Davis and the Photography Club for their help in developing some of the pictures used in the yearbook. Also, we would like to thank Mr. Ratliff and the teachers for their patience and Mr. Fred Tuttle and Mr. John Stanko for their guidance in putting together the yearbook. Our very warm thanks are extended to the businesses who advertised in our book. Finally, 1 would like to say that it has been a great honor for me to be the editor of the yearbook of my senior year.
