Mrs. Combs has taught science for twenty years at MCHS. Approximately 150 students come in and out of her room each day; most of the students being seventh and eighth graders. Seventh and eighth graders are sometimes difficult to teach, but Mrs. Combs has willingly taken on this task and has done a tremendous job. Mrs. Combs started her teaching career in a one-room school house called River School. She taught at this school for ten years. After teaching there, she moved on to MCHS; and she was a great addition to this school. Mrs. Combs is a kind and wonderful person. She is hardly ever seen without o smile on her face or heard without a kind word for someone. If there is anything Mrs. Combs can help you with, she will be glad to do so. She once told a story about her first day of school. Mrs. Combs’ father had to paddle her to get her to stay at school on the first day. Now he says she doesn’t have sense enough to quit. Mrs. Combs is the proud mother of three children. Their names are Deanna Brewer, Elaine Brown, and Mike Combs. Deanna is a physics and chemistry teacher at Carlisle. Ohio. Elaine is a teacher of English and business education at MCHS. Mike is a logger. He calls himself a professional bum . Mrs. Combs also has many hobbies. She can do just about everything a person can name. She likes to quilt, crochet, cook, read, walk, raise chickens, and pet her dogs—Jay Jay and Joy. 4 Mrs. Combs, we would like to say thank you” for all that you have contributed to this school. 5 Mr. Hiram Walters Superintendent of Menifee County Schools Mr. Joe P. Second Row: Johnny Brown, Lovell Stevens, Tony Nott, Brad Alford, and Raymond Bryant, This team was one of the best, if not the best, in our school’s history of track competition. I am very proud to have the opportunity to have coached the team. All but two boys on the team made it to the sectional meet, which is the prelim for the state. Coach Chandler Bryan Blankenship was never defeated in the 400 meter, 800 meter, or 1600 meter runs until the state meet. Bryan finished second at the state in the 800 meter and 1600 meter runs. The mile relay team (Dave Smith, Tim Evans, John Powell, Bryan Blankenship, Lovell Stevens) only took second at the EKC. From there, no other team finished ahead of them. At the Sectionals, because of the tripping foul caused by another team, they didn't make it to the state. The following placed in the Regionals, sending them to the Secionals: Dave Smith - 400m, Mile Relay, 200m Tim Evans - Mile Relay, High Jump, 800m Relay John Powell • Mile Relay, 800m Relay Bryan Blankenship - 400m, 800m, 1600m, Mile Relay Lovell Stevens - Mile Relay, 800m Relay Raymond Bryant - Pole Vault, 800m Relay Tony Nott - Discus 74 GIRLS' TRACK 1982 Team Not pictured: Graduates - Lesia Kirk Jahnna Crouch Lydia Morri son The following girls qualified for Sectionals at Clay County High School: Mile Relay - Lesia Kirk Lana Crouch Jahnna Crouch Lydia Morrison High Jump - Charlotte Bryant 880 Run, 2-mile Run - Lydia Morrison The following girls competed in the State meet: High Jump - Charlotte Bryant finished 4th. 880 Run - Lydia Morrison finished 7th. 2-mile Run - Lydia Morrison finished 4th. 75 1983 GIRLS’ TRACK TEAM BOYS' CROSS-COUNTRY FIRST ROW: David Stevens, Phillip Harmon, Billy Kirk SECOND ROW: Charles Chandler, Coach; Stephanie Sartain, Course Judge; Denita Murphy, Manager; Raymond Bryant, Course Judge. Running with the team but not pictured were Larry and Benny Vanderpool from Botts Elementary. The boys had a cross-country team for the first time in three years. There were two out- standing boys, and all boys will be back next year. GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY FIRST ROW: Crystal Mayer, Tara Kash, Linda Kash SECOND ROW: Susan Bryant, Charlotte Bryant, Carmen Bryant THIRD ROW: Charles Chandler, Coach; Stephanie Sartain, Course Judge; Denita Murphy, Manager; Raymond Bryant, Course Judge The Girls’ Cross-Country team last year was in a rebuilding year. Except for one, all the girls will return next year. Homecoming is an annual event. This year the money was raised for the Computer Club and the Athletic Association. All of the candidates, with the help of students in their homerooms, collected money. It was one penny per vote. Kim Fannin, daughter of Seldon and Joanne Fannin, became the queen. Melissa Back, daughter of Gary Back and Karen Richards, was 1st runner-up. Altogether the girls raised $1,655.41. Pictured above are: Melanie Ferrell with escort Tracy Trimble. She was chosen by Room 9-B. Susan Smallwood with escort Darrell Baker. Although we have all these people to thank, we would especially like to thank Mrs. Elaine Brown and Mrs. Mary Snedegar for all their help. The Yearbook would not even be possible without them. The Yearbook Staff has worked long and hard this year. They have taken time out of their study halls to put the Yearbook together. The staff consisted of very few people this year, but their importance is recognized. This year has been a very good year, especially for the yearbook staff. They were able to show their feelings by putting them on pages of the Yearbook. This has been a very memorable year.
