THE WILDCAT 1982 MENIFEE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL Frenchburg, Kentucky 40322 DEDICATION We, the students of the Menifee County High School, dedicate this yearbook to Mr. Hiram C. Walters, our superintendent, and to Mrs. Ann Adams, one of our favorite teachers. Mr. Walters has spent 21 years of untiring service in the Menifee County School system. He has served as our principal and is now our superintendent, but even more importantly, he is our friend. He truly cares about the children of Menifee County. We want to say thank you to Mr. Walters for the interest he has shown in us. 2 Mrs. Ann Adams has taught 25 years in the Menifee County School system. Mrs. Adams is loved and respected by all the students and is highly regarded by the entire faculty. We want to take this opportunity to say thank you” to Mrs. Adams not only for the knowledge gained in her English classes but also for all the extra time that she has so unselfishly devoted to extracurricular activities. 5 IN LOVING MEMORY This poem written by Lynn Morris, one of Mr. Adams’ students, expresses the feelings of those who knew him. Mr. Ottis Adams died on October 5, 1981. He is greatly missed by the students and faculty at the Menifee County High School. Mr. Adams taught Kentucky History. Children loved to hear stories about Daniel Boone. To the right is a portion of a poem about Daniel Boone that M'. Adams wrote and which he read to his students many times. When death approaches, People face it in many different ways. Some greet it calmly As do the aged. Ottis Adams was a wonderful man At the age of fifty-five. Some would say He was the greatest man alive. Even though he had no children, He had hundreds of us and more His wife and family Which he did adore. Death comes to everything that lives All must die one day. But, God has taken him to Heaven above For there he is to stay. He may be departed, But in our hearts, he’ll never be gone. He left us with pleasant memories To carry on........ Daniel Boone stood five feet eight. He came to Kentucky to find his fate. He built a camp on the River Red. He hunted each day and found his bed. They rebuilt your fort, Daniel Boone, Two hundred years and none too soon, They built it high on top of the hill, Where you can hear the song of the whippoorwill. We remember you in our history book Where you left without a backward look. We give you credit where credit is due, In the land of the sun and the sky of blue. 4 FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION 6 Mr. Hiram C. Students from Kentucky entered the contest. Susan Smallwood wrote a pledge as an assignment in Pam Davis’ English class. She won in the regional competition and received a $50 savings bond. She also won in the state competition. She received a $500 bond plus a trophy. The pledge reads: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Standing high and flowing free, standing for justice and liberty. United we stand, divided we fall. Give us justice, peace, and freedom for all. The pledge is being considered as the official Kentucky State Flag Pledge. A bill (HB 37) has been pre—filed and, as this yearbook goes to press, is in the Committee on State Government. Lawmakers are expected to pass the bill sometime during the 1982 session of the General Assembly. The students and faculty of the Menifee County Elementary and High Schools are very proud of Susan. Susan is the daughter of Jerry and Betty Smallwood. 65 99 QNVa 'S 'H '0 lAI The Menifee County High School Band won the first place trophy for the Best Marching Band at the Sorghum Parade in West Liberty on September 26, 1981. The Band competed against Elliott County, Fleming County, Morgan County, Magoffin County, and Hazel Green Academy. The Band also participated in the Menifee County parade in September. The Band adds to the entertainment at the pep rallies and ballgames. 67 I forgot my book.” Future muggers. The Yearbook Staff would especially like to thank Mrs. Elaine Brown and Mrs. Mary Snedegar for all the help they have given us because without them the yearbook would not be possible. As quickly as it came, each day of the year has gone. From day to day we have made new friends and greeted our old ones. This year had a lot of good times and a lot of bad times. With the help of one another, we have made it through these times. As the end of the year grows closer to us, thoughts of yesterdays remain in our minds. The 1982 school year has been and always will be a very memorable one—one we will never forget. We would like to say “Congratulations Class of 1982“ and hope you will remember all the wonderful times and rewords you have gained here. We will miss you dearly as you go out into the world and leave Menifee County High School. 147 148 mWALS WORTH PUBLISHING COMPANY MARCKLIN '. MISSOURI USA
