PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE As many of you look at this book ten or twenty years from now, you will review your school years with a very different attitude to what you now have toward school. To the ones who have been successful, have found your place in society and have attained your major goals, you will reflect happily upon your school days. To those who have not succeeded, your reflections will not be so happy. You may even have a feeling of bitter- ness, and may blame your school and your teachers for your lack of success. The opportunity was provided, you were encour- aged to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire the skills. --Knowledge and concepts that would enable you to succeed in your chosen field. I am reminded of a story I once heard. Two men were traveling in the Far East. One night while riding their horses across the desert, near midnight, while crossing a dry stream bed, they were halted by a voice. The voice demanded that they dismount and fill their saddle bags with stones from the stream bed. The men conferred briefly and decided that it would be best to do as the voice de- manded. After the men had put some stones in their saddle bags, the voice commanded them to ride on, and as the men rode away the voice told them that the next day they would be both glad and sad. Arriving at their destina- tion late that night, they forgot about the stones. Next day, remembering their expe- rience of the previous night, they looked in their saddle bags and to their great surprise and delight, instead of stones the saddle bags contained precious stones of great value. So the men were glad that they had obeyed the voice and sorry that they had not put more stones into their saddle bags.-Many of our students one day will feel much the same way. Mr. Hiram C. Walters, Principal Menifee Co. High and Grade Schools
