PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE To The Seniors, I wish I had a command of words that would enable me to give to you an inspiring message that would send you out into the world with your high school diploma and the desire and deter- mination to achieve great success in some chosen field. Unfortunately, I do not have those inspiring words. You have heard them all during the past four years. I have enjoyed and have learned a great deal during the past four years working with you seniors. You probably have found by this time that four years of high school is an insufficient amount of time to learn all the things a person needs to know. I do hope that during the past four years you have acquired some basic skill and concepts that will enable you to later become an educated person. Your education for the past four years has, of necessity, been rather general. It is up to you now to decide in what area your interest lies and to work for the attainment of specific goals in that chosen area. What you want to become is not so important as is the degree of mastery you attain in that chosen field. Education is a hard commodity to sell to young people. They are too impatient and see a high school or college education as years spent in preparing to earn a living. This is not exactly true. Education is living, and years spent in school are years of living that can be enjoyed fully and at the same time enable a person to live a richer and fuller life. Education is a continuing process. We learn as long as we are intellectually alive. A high school or college education cannot serve us for the rest of our life unless we renew and add to it. If I were asked to give one bit of important advice to young people today it would be to avoid those things that put limitations upon your future. I might clarify this by a few examples. The boy or girl who quits school before graduation has definitely limited his future. In the same way the young person that decides to marry at an early age, or to take a short course of study for some trade will have limited the areas that are open to him. Approach life with an open and inquiring mind. Learn of your own abilities and interests and develop them to their greatest potential. Do not be impatient. Prepare well for what you wish to do so that the life you live will be a long and satisfying one. The best to you always. Hiram C. Walters
