D. lNIedlai' THE FUTURE HUMEMAKERS of Amerita is an organization whose memhers are girls that have taken at least one year of home economies and met the requirements for membership. At the first meeting of the year. whith was held at The Tender Trap Lake Mendota. the new officers were in- stalled. The ottiters were: Mary Margaret Phalen. president: Dolores Budath. vice-presidentg Dorothy Larahee, setretaryg Donna Medlar. treasurerg Nancy XlC'illard. degree ehairmang Dorothy Sehammel, puh- lit relatioosp Silvia Phalen. reporterg Rita Herbert. Linda Mtlntyre, reereationg 'lanis Cotton, parliamen- tariang Mrs. Norman Willartl, chapter mother. The advisors were Miss 'lohnston and Miss Stein. The tolors of the Future Homemakers of America are red and white. The motto is 'l'ffrr.rrJ Nm Hori- zon. and expresses ot' the purpose ofthe organization. SUUJ4 During the year the organization took part in many attivities. lfirst was preparing a float for the home- toming parade. The theme was ll e'H Flrrllwz 'ljm. Other attivities were: the dog house, Christmas tarol- ing. the preparation ol' .1 hox for a needy family, .1 square dance with the FFA, an initiation banquet. and the sponsorship of .1 hundle drive. An Outstanding projett was the bundle drive. Six- teen hags of clothing were tolleeted to send to Save the Children Federation. Knoxville, Tennessee. At some ol' the meetings interesting programs were presented hy outside speakers: Miss Powell showed her slides of Europe: Mr. Klein gave a take detora- tion demonstration. At the April meeting the mothers were guests of honor. Formal initiation for next year's officers was held in Avril. The May meeting. held at the lake. was conducted hy the future officers of '56 and '57. Mrs. Lee Bird is our new chapter mother. Q

During the year many different projects were organized, planned and carried out under the leader- ship of Mr. Morris, advisorg Elwood Kidd, presidentg Glen Truckenbrod, vice-presidentg Eu- gene Novak, sec- retary: Richard Alt- haus, treasurer: Clayton Frey, sentinelg Robert Auchstetter, reporter. First on the list was a theme to be chosen by the organization for their homecoming float. It was llnflfll H7111 the Hnbr tim! lfvilli Mnffffu nf it. Other projects were as follows: dog house during the Rochelle game, oat variety test plot with Mr. George XVilhelm. bowling party. swimming party. donkey basketball game, and a square dance sponsored with the FHA. Each year the boys sponsor a Parent and Son Banquet. At the bancjuet Bill Burkart was awarded a swine trophy for the best hog project of last year. Cattle Call 33,4 Prc-ceding the banquet, speeches were given by several members about their projects, followed by a movie, How to Raise a Boy. Keith Piller and james Gehant ordered trees to plant for soil conservation and wild life refuge. Ag classes helped set them out. Glen Trucl-cenbrod won grand champion beef female at Section Eight FFA fair at Ottawa. with his Angus heifer. He also won grand champion steer over all breeds with Angus steers. Clayton Frey's entry was third in a large class of Holstein heifers. Other boys showing at FEA fair were Bill Burkart, Robert Auchstetter and Elwood Klklil. The members are required to participate in one or more projects of various nature. Record books are completed at the close of each year to determine the success of the individual. In final summary of the year's projects Elwood Kidd with his large dairy project was high in farm earnings.
