Our Board of Education Perhaps there is not a School Board in LaSalle County having a more com- petent, broad-minded set of men than has our own. E President IJ. tl. Tower is one of the best known and most. respected men in the Uity and Township, and is ever ready and anxious to advance any legitimate plan for the upbuilding of the High School. One of Mr. Tower's best qualities is his liking for young people and his ability to see things from the angle of the high school student. The students are mighty strong for Mr. Tower. Mr. John Buck represents the farming interests and while active in all board business, is especially interested in the Agricultural Department. While con- servative, Mr. Buck can be depended upon to support any forward school move- ment. Mr. Martin Fahler is one of Mendota's best known business men and uses his knowledge with the same enthusiasm and earnestness that characterizes his reg- ular work. His motto seems to be, There is nothing too good for the High School. Mr. Bernard Katzwinkel, chairman of the building and grounds committee, is deeply interested in the school and has no doubt sacrificed more of his time toward its promotion than any man on the board. He is a hustler in anything he undertakes. Mr. B. Harry Rcck is a college man himself and sees things from the pro- gressive college manls point of view. He believes that a school without equip- ment is like a carpenter without tools, and has done much towards keeping the building well equipped for its work. Being a former athlete, he favors that sort of school work and his boosting is appreciated by all of us. Mr. William Phalen has the happy faculty of always being on the right side pt' the fence. llc possesses remarkable judgment and is one of the most valuable men on the Board. His fine sense of humor and regard for justice tend to make him highly regarded by both teachers and students. Mr. George Nauman was for many years a teacher. Consequently, he is very conversant with the routine work ofa school. This, coupled with his splen- did education, makes him a valuable asset to any School Board. He is a thorough believer in the valuel of a good education, and has high ideals in all things. Mr. C. P. Gardner is not a member of the Boar-1 but ever since the organiza- tion of the Township High School has acted as secretary. He is a man of un- usually strong judgment and legal ability and too much can not be said in praise of the splendid service he has rendered the township as legal adviser for the Board. His middle name is progress, safe, sane, progress. ' -11.-
