We are truly pleased with this year's book, and we hope that you enjoy it. For the Seniors, this is your last Mendel yearbook and we especially hope you enjoy and cherish it for years to come. We have spent many hours working on, and improving this book. Although we hope that there are no mistakes, if there are, they are not intentional, and we hope that you will overlook them. We also hope that you will approve of the changes we have made in this year's book. We have eliminated a few pages which we felt the students did not particularly care for, and we have lengthened the sports section. Our apologies go to those students who did not get their pictures in this year's book. In most cases this was not our fault. Also we regret that we were unable to include things like baseball, tennis, graduation, and proms. But we wanted this book to be a part of THIS school year, so we had to make early deadlines. Whatever your reaction to this book, you will know that the remembrance of Mendel will have caused it. We hope that the MON ARCH plays an important part in that memory. f XDGJLQCTYX X X 'MW Qvwovwbm' ' 0 fi V Jfdwmf My Dear Class of 1979, It is a pleasure to congratulate you on your individual and collective accomplishments. Each graduating class has its own personality. Each class has its unique characteristics. When some classes graduate, the faculty breathes a sigh of relief. With others, it is a painful experience because there is some irreplaceable quality or presence that is lost. You are probably saying, Please tell us quickly where we would be considered. So I will. You are the type of class that will be greatly missed. Each of your four years, the faculty has had high praise for you, and the receiving teachers looked forward to instructing you. Our sadness, of course, is a compliment to you. and it is something that gives us consolation to know that you have been good leaders. You have given us every hope to expect future greatness from the mem- bers of the class because you have gained much from this good rapport with the faculty and staff and have matured and grown in wisdom and grace in your years as Mendel men. Congratulations, then, on what you have been and what you are. The future should hold no fears for you because you have had a good foundation with self-sacrificing parents, with a vision, who have made it possible for you to receive a Christ-centered, sound education. So, really we are not sad, but glad, to have known all of you and each of you. Your faculty at Mendel is proud of you and confident that the Class of 1979 will continue to excell as complete and integral Christian gentlemen. With them. I ask God's continued blessing on you. Sincerely, I Rev. John R. Gavin, O.S.A. Principal 3? S x 25? 3 -W - L 0 L,,h ., V if Y 'Fr Hg qw ,,,. f ' 1 . Q N Q ' S W' 'fi 'QE' Q-ww' .vi Mr. Edward Adams. All of the sorting of pictures, the typing, the cropping, and all of the hard work is behind us. But before we sit back and thumb through this year's yearbook we have some people to thank. There are many so we have to first apologize to those who we don't specifically mention. We haven't forgotten those seniors who drove out to pick up pictures so we could make a deadline. Nor have we forgotten those students who worked on a page here and there, or who did some typing on occasion. First of all, we would like to thank the student body, the various organizations and moderators, the teams and coaches, for their cooperation when pictures were taken. Next we would like to thank Mr. Ken Nemsick and Taylor Publishing Company. Whenever we needed some help, they were always there. Our thanks goes to Schmitt Photo Company who made sure we didn't miss any deadlines. We want to thank Father Gavin and the Administration for their help in making this possible. Our Moderator is due thanks for showing us how to put the yearbook together and in many cases doing the work himself.
