Social Studies In order for democracy to survive and grow, America needs alert and intelligent citizens. The Social Studies Department plays a maior role in helping the Mendel student to fully participate as a citizen. By analyzing the past, students can build for the future. Or by analyzing modern Ameri- can society, the student can devise solu- tions to social problems. The student, in his studies of World History, American His- tory, Government, or Sociology, is expected to interpret facts logically rather than accept the analysis of someone else. Mm, Mr. McAllister lectures to his social studies class. 34 ,I f , U1 359- :Z -2 Mr. Melvin Provencher, Department Chairman Mr. James Lovett Languages Mendel's Foreign Language Department is designed to help the student to read and speak Spanish, French, or German.
