The Mendel Chorus Any history of the Mendel Music Department has to be in capsule form .... No organization in the school packs more into an already confined school year than the Music Department. They started back when the eager Freshmen joined the upperclassmen. The groups were drilled and drilled-vocal scales and endless marching practices-then followed the numberless engagements. The novel formations and crowd-pleasing tactics of the Band were a hit at the football games. Plaudits grew and grew for the Chorus at school and parish programs. From the gridiron to the basketball court, the Band continued to thrill spectators at the Mendel-Rita, Kiwanis Wheelchair, DePaul U.-Providence U., and the Catholic League All-Star basketball games. Roseland and Chicago parades also filled the schedule. The Band and Chorus combined their talents to bring a high quality of entertainment to the Mendel Open House, Spring Music Festival, Honor's Night and Graduation Programs. Behind this success story is one outstanding fact- HARD WORK . It begins with the Moderator, Father Bernard McConville, O.S.A., and his assistant, Father John Kret, O.S.A. It goes on with the hard working Chorus Director-Father David Brecht, O.S.A.g the tireless Band Director-Gino Pacettig the indispensable Associate Band Director-Dominic Pianeg the very valuable Assistant Band Director- Howard Risattig The loyal Patricia Pacetti, Irene Smith and their l'MENDELETTES',Q the ever help- ful Parents. Finally, at the bottom, are the hardest WORKERS --the Band and Chorus Members spear- headed by the Officers and Seniors. Even though the Band was only the runner-up in the Walt Disney National Marching Band Contest, we say this about our Music Department- They are the best in the land!
