Tlw Mendel's sprint down its second mile of history took impetus from the organizing efforts of Rev. Francis X, Cavanaugh, O.S.A. His background in the Augustinian education Held is impressives Bachelor of Arts, Villanova University, Bachelor of Science in Ed- ucation, Villanova, where for a time he was a professor, Vice- Rector of Cascia Hall, Tulsa, Vice-Rector of St. Rita, 1952-l956, Rector of Mendel, i956-i959 and presently prior of Austin High, Detroit. Well known are Fr. Cavanaugh's efforts in sharpening to keen edge Mendel's system of academic achievement. The Mon- arch now acknowledges his contribution in this twin dedication.

Rev. Martin J. O'Neill, OSA. Before taking his place in the forming of Mendel's history, Father has, since his ordination, been actively engaged in Augustinian educative enterprises. After finishing his graduate vvorlc at the Catholic University of America tovvard a Master's Degree in Sociology, Father was assigned to St. Rita High School, in Chicago. He next was appointed to the first faculty upon the founding of St. Monica Seminary in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. By Provincial appointment, he was assigned for a three year term as Procurator of Cascia Hall, Tulsa, Oklahoma. And for the next twelve years he acted in the capacity of Prefect of Studies and Assistant Head- master at Cascia Hall. Since i959 he has held the office of Rec- tor at Mendel. Under his capable and experienced leadership, Mendel has continued to advance in its contribution for the educa- tion of Catholic youth.
