ROW 3: N Ahrens The Monarchs' football rocket looked fairly launched in its pre-season play . . . the Mendel men wrecked the Ramblers from Gordon Tech Ctheir engineering may be betterl by tallying a l2-2 decision over their North Side rival . . . and at Lane Tech Stadium by out-doing a dazed De Paul squad by an uncontested 22-O. Opening the season itself at Eckersall . . . the Mt. Carmel caravan rolled to a l4-O halt over our big team . . . and considering the close rivalry the score was only part of the defeat. Out after lions' meat hoofing around as the Leo nine luse dictionaries on punsl, Mendel's own Monarchs pulled to a l2-O lead, only to slip back to a l2-l4 lag at the half. A quick T.D. by Mendel was mainly smashed by two T.D.'s of Leo . . . the scale tipped 28-18 in favor of the felines. The load of the Loyola defeat Q2-ol could only be somewhat lightened by a go-go 103 yard run out of his own end zone by Pete Andreotti. lt only takes one sparkling, shifty play to make a game worth while. ln the Homecoming victory the Monarchs hit their pay dirt in the regular season. There still are goodly rivals in them 'thar Beverly Hills. All in all there have been better seasons, percentage wise as the books all say, with three wins outweighed by five losses. But never think that Mendel does not still have a taste for top-flight l good show l football - real Monarch style. 104 - --... . Q - 5,
