At the present time, the entire school family is concentrating on the laying out Page Twenty three THE SANDSTORM Nmeteen Forty three STUDENT COUNCIL HE STUDENT COUNCIL at Menaul IS a governing body composed of nlne members four from the semor class three from the Jumor class and two from the sophomore class These members are chosen so they can act as leaders to guide and lead the rest of the students rn promotmg order obeylng rules and ln anythmg whlch would lead to mamtammg the :deals and standards of the school The Council meets frequently and dlscusses many problems that come up The Louncxl also takes charge of several 6CtlVltl9S durmg the year They planned the Hallowe en party and stunts An lmportant actnrty with v hrch they helped was the ratlomng problem They explarnecl and showed to the students how the rationing problem THE MENAUL FARM HIS YEAR we were fortunate to get lVlr Daniel Vasquez as our new manager of the farm He has been trained for this lund of work and we hope through his supervlslon great progress wlll be made Thus year the farm wuu be more important than any other year on account of food shortage We are plannmg to rarse a number of crops which wxll supply us next winter Everyone ns doing has best ln farmmg thus year Almost every faculty famlly IS planting a vlctory garden ln which to ranse therr own vegetables Poultry was added thrs last year and we have been gettmg a good many eggs The school dmxng room IS belng furnished from eighty to a hundred fresh eggs each day Eggs are of great help m our school now that there IS a meat shortage Because of the success we have had we have ordered four hundred more baby chucks This year we have been short of feed so we have not been gettmg as much mlllc as we should ln splte of this hardshrp we have been feeding sllage which replaces the laclc of alfalfa to a great extent This feed rs a mxxture of corn stalks and beets and xts chem! cal compounds help to mcrease the amount of mlllc Cream has always been a profitable product from the farm This year a mlllc house has been bullt whxch wall provxde sanitary condxtlons m handlmg the mrlk ln the summer time the cream 15 separated and sold to a local creamery Since last fall we have sold pigs amountrng to almost one thousand dollars V ' ' . .
