FOOTBAll SENIOR TEAM The Senior team, composed of ninth and tenth grade boys, had a fair season, winning two and dropping three. The team traveled to Germantown and came home with a 26-0 victory in the first game. Whitehaven defeated the stubborn but outclassed MUS eleven in a rough game at Whitehaven. Leading only 7-0 at halftime, the county boys rotated freely and wore the defense down for three more scores, winning 28-0. At Gaisman Park, a big Treadwell team trounced MUS 32-0. Again, the difference was in the second half. A 6-0 halftime lead was increased almost at will in the latter stages of the game. The record was evened with an exciting victory over Bartlett. MUS held a precarious 2-0 advantage at intermission, but drove consistently to increase the lead to 23-6. Then Bartlett struck quickly to score three touchdowns and hold a 26-23 edge. Then, with seconds remaining, Claude Crawford threw apasstoLannyButler who fumbled it when tackled. Worth Brown, however, picked up the loose ball and tallied the winning points, making the final score 30-26. A trip to Franklin, Tennessee to play Battle Ground Academy netted a good time for all but a thorough defeat at the hands of thehosts, 39-6. A 6-6 tie was broken early in the second quarter as the rain stalled our offense. BGA ' s fleet backs scampered around the ends in the second half and chalked up three more touchdowns to put the out come game out of doubt. JUNIOR TEAM The Junior team also opened against Germantown, winning28-7. Tom Keesee was the stand- out, scoring 15 points. A night game with Frayser ended in a 0-0 tie, both teams performing equally. Frayser ' s strong defense halted the MUS drives, keeping the game scoreless. At Training, MUS faced a 14 point deficit before the game was five minutes old. But two touchdowns evened the count at half and a series of drives produced the touchdown for the victory, 20-14. The East B team fell to MUS, 14-0. East never really threatened and the substitutes finished the game. Longview Heights engaged MUS at Bellevue Park and lost, 14-0. Again MUS dominated play, but the Longview Heights defense refused to be overrun. The last game of the season was possibly the best. Millington fought on an even keel until the final whistle, 13-13. With the score 13-6, Millington drove to the yard line with a minute to play. The tough MUS defense held for two downs but Millington finally penetrated to the end zone, tying the game. At the season ' s end a banquet was held in the auditorium with Captain Joe Clifton as the principal speaker. Claude Crawford was elected Captain and Kerry Patteson Co-Captain for next year ' s team Jim Haygood is the new Junior Captain. 22
