Cheerleader Gwen King demonstrates pep and agility as she revels in a Memphis State victory. Mascot Robert Hooker elevates the spirit of a Tiger cub during the Ole Miss game. Memphis State facilities were used for lectures and other special programs sponsored by campus or- ganizations and civic groups. Mem- phians joined with students in sup- porting Tiger sports. This was evi- denced by large crowds gathered in the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium to cheer the football squad, and it was not unusual for basketball games to be sold out. Students and administrators worked together on campus to spon- sor activities which appealed to a large cross-section of the univer- sity and community. Homecoming festivities included dinners, special concerts and a parade in which alumni were honored participants. Opening 7
