The purpose of the organ- ization is to train students to become more effective speakers while par- ticipating in intercollegiate speech activities. Memphis State was represented at the following speech meetings: Louisiana State Discussion Tournament, Tau Kappa Alpha Regional and National Debates, University of Pittsburgh Cross-Examination Debates, Ten- nessee State Speech Tournament, Southern Speech Association Festival and the West Point Preliminaries. Several tours to other colleges were initiated by the Forensics Association for the purpose of practice debates with other school debate teams. 30
