The Legislature of the Student Government The Student Government Association, which was reorganized this year under a new constitution, has as its main characteristic a check and balance system of government patterned after that of the United States. The three divisions of government are the Ex- ecutive Department, composed of the president of the student government and his cabinet; the Legis- lature, composed of the presidents of the chartered organizations on the campus, and the Judicial De- partment, composed of five student justices elected by the student body and two faculty members elected by the faculty. The government is the authoritative voice of the students and serves as a liaison agent between the students and the college administration. A number of other firsts are evident in the his- tory of the organization this year, including ( I ) the vice president presiding over the legislature (2) election of a speaker pro tempore for the legis- lature, and (3) the revival of the procedure of the legislature. s 7 ' ' «„; v oJt ° i. 13
