A Message from the President I appreciate this opportunity to extend final greetings to the 1954-55 student body of Memphis State College, and especially to congratulate the members of the graduating class for achieving their goal. I wish, also, to commend the faculty advisor and the publication staff of this yearbook for their untiring efforts in publishing this annual. Naturally, one of the greatest sources of pride for any college and for the officials who direct the work of that college is the accomplishment and the achievement of the students. I am confident that the individual members of the 1955 graduating class will make outstanding contributions to the wel- fare of our city, our state and our nation. There are many evidences of achievement at Memphis State College during the past few years. Many new buildings have been erected, course offerings have been expanded, additional teachers and administrative officers have been employed, and the student enrollment has exceeded the 3150 mark. It has taken the combined efforts of all to reach this high level of educational opportunity that all of you deserve. It is my sincere desire that you will always remember pleasantly your Alma Mater, and as you thumb through the pages of the 1955 DeSoto you will recall with cherished memories some of the happy days you spent with us. Sincerely, J. M. SMITH, President Memphis State College MRS. SMITH The President ' s Home on the Campus
