SENIOR CLASS HISTORY In l9Sh, a bewildered bunch of freshmen met rd be an their exciting experiences in Memphis High At our fir t class meeting, we elected officers as follows President, John Mor rlson, Vice president, John McCoy, Secretary Treasurer, Crystal Watson, and HH1s torian, Linda Crawford Ne had the horrible e perlence of being initiated by the sophomores It W8SPOUg1 but we lived through lt and also gave the mean sophomores and the faculty a party During that year, we went to Kirksville for a skating party As sophomores, we elected the following officers President, John McCoy, Vice president, Jerry Fryrear, Secretary Historian, Crystal Watson, Treasurer, Joanne Cone This year, the tables were turned and we initiated the freshmen They treated us to a weiner roast which everyone enjoyed im ensely We held another skating nartv at Kirksville chaperoned by our sponsor, Mr Groves mverybody had a nice tlme We also sponsored two bake sales and an all school dance It seemed mat our junlor year was to be fllled with more activity J first elected these class offlcers Pre ldent, John McCoy, Vice president, Harveylkm The first task we undertook as Juniors, was magazine sales We broke all previous records by netting e590 We used most of the profit for the prom The remainder was to be used to help flnance our future senior trip The Junior class play, 'Off the Trackn,directed by I4r Blackman, was presented by members of the class on May 3 It was a bla success We were bubbllng over with enthusiasm as we planned the theme for the Junior Senior Prom Under the supervision of Mr Blackman, our sponsor, we decorated e gym Our theme was the Stork Club Our colors were a little different than usual, we chose black and white which we thought was very attractive The banquet was held at the Presbyterian Churcl An all nicht party was given by the seniors at the V F W Under the directions of our sponsor Wm Caster, we elected our senior class ofd cers They are President, John McCoy, Vice president, Richard Payne, Secreu y Treasurer, Mary Ann Darr, and Historian, Crystal Watson Our main goal, this last year of high school, was to raise money for our senior trip We washed cars, had the customary work day , sold candy and sponsored two chili suppers We also presented 'Desperate Ambrose , our senior class play, dur ing the spring which was a big success. Our senior trip to Lake Taneycomo was wonderful We all had a grand time and we shall remember it forever We came back through Jefferson City, where we visited the state capital We were all very tired on our arrival home but we all think it was worth the four years of hard, hard, work Baccalaureate was held May 18 and Commencement, May 22 Ne, the class of 1958 bade our final farewell to Memphls High on that unforgettable night.
