Debate We wouldn’t have had a debate team if it weren’t for the hard work and the enthu- siam of Phillis LeTarte and Penny Moran. The girls spent many hours training new de- baters only to lose them for various reasons. Despite discouraging set-backs, Penny and Phillis were able to retain their original optimism. Even though our league record was not the best we all learned a lot through our de- bate program. We ended up with a 3-21 record in a new league we entered as a “learn- ing experience.” The Middle Macomb League, made up of A and B schools, taught us a lot about technique. Phillis LeTarte took high speaker trophy for our school in this league. Through the struggles we encountered we still did a fine job and have high hopes for next season. A very speical thanks to Alice Melat and Sharon Groth who made a last minute res- cue. With only five hours notice they became members of the Debate Team so that we were able to honor our commitment at the District Debates. Penny and Phillis
