THE DIOCESAN CHANCERY 328 Fifth Avenue, North Nashville, Tennessee TO THE GRADUATES OF THE CLASS OF l95I: I am indeed glad to unite with your parents and teachers and friends in extending to you sincere congratulations on the noteworthy achievement attested by your graduation diploma. You deserve much credit for your persevering effort, and we are proud of you. But I hardly need to remind you that you also have contracted a large debt-a debt of gratitude to those who have made your graduation possible-to your God, to your teachers and to your parents and friends. This debt you can pay best in the coin of honorable living from here on out-by being always an upstanding Christian gentleman. We know you want to be all this implies, but we are almost fearful for you, because of the unusually grave problems and responsibilities confronting you. And yet we have unbounded confidence, because we believe you know the solution of these problems, and can and will shoulder the responsibilities. You have faith in God, you know and are resolved to keep His Laws. You are confident that God and His Blessed Mother and yours, will never fail you if you do not fail them, we want to think too, that you stand resolved, as was the recently beatified Dominic Savio in his youth, to fight, to suffer, and to die, if need be, to be true to your God, to your Church, to your country, to all those who love you best, but never to dishonor them by delib- erate fault. Such a life is a real success, it is being heroic, and we want you to be a success and a hero. We wish you God's blessing. Sincerely in Christ, WILLIAM L. ADRIAN, Bishop of Nashville 5
