You deserve much credit for your persevering effort, and we are proud of you. But I hardly need to remind you that you also have contracted a large debt-a debt of gratitude to those who have made your graduation possible-to your God, to your teachers and to your parents and friends. This debt you can pay best in the coin of honorable living from here on out-by being always an upstanding Christian gentleman. We know you want to be all this implies, but we are almost fearful for you, because of the unusually grave problems and responsibilities confronting you. And yet we have unbounded confidence, because we believe you know the solution of these problems, and can and will shoulder the responsibilities. You have faith in God, you know and are resolved to keep His Laws. You are confident that God and His Blessed Mother and yours, will never fail you if you do not fail them, we want to think too, that you stand resolved, as was the recently beatified Dominic Savio in his youth, to fight, to suffer, and to die, if need be, to be true to your God, to your Church, to your country, to all those who love you best, but never to dishonor them by delib- erate fault. Such a life is a real success, it is being heroic, and we want you to be a success and a hero. We wish you God's blessing. Sincerely in Christ, WILLIAM L. ADRIAN, Bishop of Nashville 5 X xx 'E- X r K if . E A Qi f 5533! X , Q 1 xiii w x mx .sh 351 f 1 55? an fm ,F . 132 an ' Q , ,. s W Q. 'f Q . ' ' ' A 9 fi . . Q M onfi ig nor emla ned The activities of a Monsignor are many and varied especially when he's Dean of West Tennessee. Monsignor Kemphues has met the chal- lenge of every occasion and has done his iob well. He has taken a vital interest in the activities in his Deanery from the installation of a new pastor to pitching the first ball in the CYO Softball League. Shown on these pages is the Monsignor at his various tasks sponsoring and super- vising the city's largest Holy Name Rallies, signing the papers authoriz- ing Catholic High, surveying the completed iob, honoring Father Clunan, former professor at Catholic High, turning the first shovel of ground at St. Agnes Academy and heading the Board of Pastors in their meet- ings concerning Catholic High. 8 4 'E' -N 1 . The Baby Terriers didn't exactly live up to the name this year for they proved to 'be a rugged set of ball players during the Junior High Football League play. Under Coach Phil Cooper, who himself is a Freshman Faculty member, the team showed great possibilities of developing into a potent force as Varsity members. Highlight of the season came with the naming of For- ward Bill Shelly to the Memphis PRESS- SCIMITAR All-City basketball team and the COMMERCIAL-APPEAL second team. Shelly consistently kept Catholic in every game and managed to maintain a good standing in the scoring race. The Varsity was handled by Asst. Coach Charlie Clunan. Taking a squad of green men, Marin developed them into a group of outstanding players. Many of his men were lost to him at various times during the season due to the fact that they were too good, for when they had developed sufficiently they moved up to the Varsity. No, they're really a part of the school. Some years ago an organiza- tion was formed to promote the interest of parents of students at Catholic High and the friends of the school.
