The men chosen to guide and develop the Terriers during the past season. At right, Coach Walter O'Meara. former All- Stztte quarterback from Con- necticut and for four years a real Irishman with the lrish of Notre Dame l'niversity'. Coach O'Meara came to Catholic High direct from four years as a pilot with the l.'nited States Navy. Above is pictured Asst. Coach Tony Fahhiano. an All-State player himself from Ohio who later gained fame with the pre- XY'orld XX'ar Il Memphis State Tigers. He served with our armed forces during the XY'ar and returned to Memphis to assist Coach O'Meara and com- plete his studies at Memphis State. FOOTBALL .Xlthotigh not too outstanding in the won and losti t oltinins ol' the sports pages. the 'l erriers of Catholic High. nevertheless, gained much renown for their outstanding sportsmanship and spirit. The team hattled against over- whelming odds at times hut was never known to say quit, 'lille Gallant Terriers they were frequently called. and they lived up to the name. lt w as Coach Vvalter O'Nle.ira's job to develop outstanding players. outstanding players from the material .it hand. Not too soon will the 'l erriers' opponents in the Nlemphis Prep League forget savage defensive play' of All-City Bill Nlorarity or the little play hreakeru All-City lfrank Nohle, not to mention the knifing, shoebstring tackles of minute Chuck Mates. Some great men were developed and some great games were played during the '4' season, hut the Terriers were not too well pleased and plan to show the city come fall. i
