CLASS PROPHECY THE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF 1953 REQLIIESTS 'run Homoa ov Youn PRESENCE AT THE FIRST REUNION JUNE 16, 1963, AT 7:30 P.M. COUNTRY CLUB, DANVILLE, VIRGINIA VVe received the preceding invitation and prepared for our reunion with great anticipation. At last we eould satisfy our curiosity as to what our classmates had been doing since graduation. VVhen we arrived who should greet us at the door but Miss jane Spath, now Director of Nurses at Ole Memorial since Miss Hutchison went West For her health. While chatting with Miss Spath we spied Florence Rowland Lewis with her fourteen children. She is running a nursery of her own, it seems. Standing close by, catching the eyes of all our boy friends andfor husbands, was Sallie Richardson, still undecided about her future plans. Bettie Paxton Hester had always ravecl about uniformed men, so I see she has her MRS. degree with wings. lt must be nice down in Raleigh with all those Memorial grads. Noticed how nice Frances Anglin looks in the Navy uniform. Congratulations, Lt.! Bette VVinn and Betty I-Iarris did I-ine for themselves seems they are Director of Nurses and Superintendent of the Leaksville Hospital. Barbara French and Reva Farmer are members oi' the faculty of the Leaksvillc I-Iospital School of Nursing. lt seems that Nancy Simpson is still working in Reidsville, although a certain fellow CIamesD is trying hard to convince her that Greensboro is a better place. Rachel McCollum does not agree with all that, as she is 3-Il P.M. supervisor at Reidsville. We understand that Ursula Frazier is now in charge of O. R. at Oxford. Nice going! VVonder if Mona Ellington still corresponds with a certain New Yorker she met at N. C. State? Mildred Caldwell and her husband, Ronald, are standing in the corner trying to convince the audience that living in the Grand Canyon is fun. VVe've heard Go West, but never like that. Even Veronica Kalnasy likes Public Health Nursing in California. VVhy, we even have a nurse on horseback. Elzena Bryant in the hills of Ferrum, Virginia! Nancy Carter is having the time of her lilie in obstetrics at Geisinger Clinic in Danville, Pa. Her nearhy neighbor is Beverly Haight, who has a position with a surgeon in Peekskill, N. Y. Can you imagine! Petie I-Iudson has settled down to be a minister's wife! However, Sallie Milam is still debating between the baseball player and the coach. VVe learned that several of our classmates are still at Memorial. Mrs. Marie Atkinson Swain is working in O. R. with P. C. Smith as her assistant. Elizabeth Newman Doss and jane Collie are supervisors in O. B. How is business these days, girls? Mike Bankhead is still trying to convince Glorine Barker that her talents are needed more in Charlotte than in McGuire's Hospital. VVe are very sorry that Alma Nuckles VVoodall was unable to be with us, as she is expecting the little one she has talked so much about. Wonder if she will be in Royster Building? Maybe janet Allmond Lovell will take care of her and keep us posted. Betty Stevens seems pretty anxious to help Frank own his own service station in Raleigh, as she works with him on her hours off duty at Rex Hospital. T Yes, the evening passed all too quickly, for we were reminiscing over the three years we spent together at Ole Memorial. Remember the day we came in training? .. . 32 scared girls! The climax was reached in Microlniology class with Miss Steger. It was that week that five packed their bags and left for a quieter side of life. However, Frances Anglin broke the ice by tempting Miss S. with fried chicken gizzards through the window during class. Never forget the delightful rides and classes with Prof. Barnett at V.P.I. Our chemistry experiments were first on bubble gum. Results? Two instructors were assigned to ride with us. Come to think ol: it, the boys were not too bad either!
