. George A. McKinney was born in the 'Show-Me State' near Springfield. He re- ceived his undergraduate degree in education from Southwest Missouri State College. Since then he has received his M.S. from Tulsa University and is now in the last stages of work toward his doctorate of education. He has also studied at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. He joined Tulsa schools in 1941 after having been principal in Leonard, Okmul- gee, and Bixby. His first po- sition here was business in- structor at Central. From 1942-1944 he was civilian instructor at Oklahoma State University with the engi- neering operations school of the Air Force. He then returned to Bixby High as principal un- til his return in 1949 as science teacher at Franklin. From 1952-1955 he was on special assignment at the Education Service Center and he was assistant princi- pal at Cherokee Junior High from 1955-1958. In 1958 Monroe Junior High opened and he was named principal. He re- mained there until 1962 when he became principal at Tulsa's newest high school, Memorial. Taps III Honors Principal Mr. George A. McKinney is a man we point to with pride. A dignified, intelligent man with an abundance of warmth and humor, he has captured the respect and love of all who are associated with him. He has served Memorial faithfully and with wis- dom and patience, guided her to the heights she has attained in her short, but re- markable history. lt means very much to students to know that their principal sincerely cares about them and wants the very best for them. lf you ever have occasion to go to him with a problem, you will find genuine interest and competent assistance. His concern is shown even in his parting words, lf there's anything else l can do, please let me know. lt is therefore fitting that this yearbook, with its theme of the three phases of Me- morial life, be dedicated to the man who best exemplifies them. With gratitude and affection we dedicate Tapslllto our principal.
