Journalism Classes Visit Chronicle Plant What are the purposes ot an editorial? The ditterent types ot news story? Running f,,M,,.57' heads? Boldtace and italicized type? The role ,, 'fig' NEW ot a newspaper in its community? Lay-out and llll make-up? By the time journalism students com- plete their year ot study. most can answer.these and other questions intelligently and tluently, write a news story. and analyze the make-up ot local newspapers. Talks by writers tor Hous- ton's Post and Chronicle, advertising men, pub- lishers. and other specialists, and televised pro- s DESK grams on the Gemini program added an extra bit ot spice to this year's curriculum, as did inspection ot the Chronicle plant. The course covered not only printed com- munications. but all the mass media, advertis- ing, public relations, industrial publications, and yearbooks. fame , ,.,, ,,,x Journalism students talk to Chronicle city editor about news writing. Photo Club Learns of Latest Techniques. With and without cameras. the members ot Memorial's Photography Club sought to absorb technique tips in lab sessions and trom guest speakers such as Mr. Bernie 7 Goodman ot Carroll Camera and Mr. Tom Johnson ot the Houston Post. Taking FT gm candids ot other club meetings .enabled members to use what they learned, as did u their Funny Fotos booth at the Senior Carnival. When the Christmas season ar- - rived, the Photo Club sponsored the annual door-decorating contest. Field trips to ,, photography establishments rounded out the year.
