Rapid Reading Raises Rates The essence ot improvement is concentration. or so it seems. The most usetul course you can take ac- cording to counselors, is the rapid reading pro- gram ottered by Mrs. Belva Mettner. The course employed several types ot equipment in an et- tort to increase reading speed and comprehen- sion. Use ot controlled readers, shadowscopes, rateometers, the SRA reading labs, and a variety ot paperbacks and other texts doubled the read- ing rate ot most students taking the course. No student tailed to increase his speed less than IOO words per minute. However, said Mrs. Mettner, Every reader must .establish a tlexible reading speed to suit his purpose and material. Work with watercolor, oil, tempera, printing blocks. clay and wire sculpture, and polymer has produced varied and dis- tinctly individual results.
