Eagles Clipped Atter a slow start, the Ponies got rolling and dumped the Smiley Eagles 77-42. Absent trom the regular start- ing tive were Paul Poythress and Larry Wood. Dan l-toran and Mike Millegan replaced the two, showing that the Mustangs also have a strong bench. Jerry Kroll compiled 37 points white Vernon Cross came up with l2 to lead the charging Mustangs. Junior Larry Wood warms up betore Spring Woods game. Mustangs Win District Memorial almost waited too long to claim their third straight IOAAAA champion- ships, but managed to overcome the Bears ot Spring Branch, 70-66. Jerry Kroll led the play-ott-bound Ponies trom I3 points be- hind with a tourth period spurt that caught the hosting Bears 62-62 at the regular tinish. ln the overtime period, the Mustangs tirst ot the year, Roland Carter sank six ot Me- morials eight points to ruin Spring Branch's upset bid and end the regular season tor the Mustangs, one in which they posted a potent 30-4 record. Mustangs in double tigures were Kroll l28l Carter ll6l All Cross pumps tor two district Vernon mofel . . . ,, Hosses Hold Tigers The big Red cinched at least a tie tor the district IO-AAAA crown, deteating the Spring Woods Tigers 77-38. Every man on the squad played in the game, which was the last home game on the district schedule. Memorial ran up a 32-7 lead in the tirst period and coasted to the 77-38 win. Four Mustangs made the double tigure scores. Jerry Kroll, with 22, took high point honors. Larry Wood tallied ll and Vernon Cross and Roland Carter sank IO each.
