World history, a freshman or sophomore course, gives a general survey of all types of civilizations. In the junior year, American history spe- cializes in the development of our country, and, in the senior year, every function of the present day government is analysed. Practical applications of social studies include such exercises as the student legislature of the government classes. Also, elective courses, Contemporary Problems and Sociology, help interested students relate their studies to current situations.

Ce ae Advanced Work Offered in Sciences The advanced work done in MHS science courses enables students to take advanced placement in college, as well as to achieve recognition in the Westinghouse Talent Search, Greater Houston Sci- ence Fair, National Scholarship Examination, Engi- neering Aptitude Search, American Chemical So- ciety Examination, and the Interscholastic League Science and Slide Rule tests. Textbook lessons are supplemented by corre- sponding laboratory work. Feeding chickens, run- ning up stairs to determine horsepower, and cre- ating newer and even more powerful smells are among the many activities.
