Northshore Bopped, 101-47 Six Mustangs hit in double figures as Memorial opened its third year of district play with a 101- 47 victory over the Northshore Mustangs at North- shore. All-state candidate Jerry Kroll led the team with an impressive 29 points against the ine ffective Mustangs from Galena Park. This win marked the eleventh straight victory in 10-4A play, carrying over from last year. GE wo a ee Dick Hamner (31) puts in two at Northshore. Trojans Bow, 103-80 Memorial did the impossible by scoring over 100 points twice in a row with their 103-80 win over the South Houston Trojans. The win preserved the string of home court wins. The Mustangs have yet to lose on their own floor since 1963 in a tournament. Jerry Kroll led the team in scoring once again with 29 points. Aldine Crossed, 87-45 Memorial entertained the Aldine Mustangs on January 8, and with the help of Kent Taylor and Vernon Cross, whitewashed the visitors, 87-45. Taylor hit 18 points, mostly from the outside, the shot he is most noted for, and Vernon Cross © aided the defensive cause. Cross also put the ball through the hoop from half-court just as the final buzzer sounded, a feat that will be remem- bered by all who saw it. Northshore Decked, 100-68 Fighting hard but losing to a far superior team, the Mustangs of Northshore continued in their losing ways with a 100-68 Memorial win. Steve Jacoby, Neill Armstrong, Roland Carter, Dick Hamner, Paul Poythress, and Vernon Cross stood out. E South Houston Fights, 66-60 Kent Taylor and Jerry Kroll teamed up for 36 points as the Mustangs continued to roll through district unmolested with a 66-60 win over the die-hard Trojans of South Houston. Having the home court edge, the Trojans kept the high-scoring Ponies down to reachable heights and made quite a game of the contest. With memories of their earlier plastering, South Houston played like a team that was the mistaken under- dog. Aldine Smashed, 94-57 Finding the range late in the game, the Mus- tangs failed to reach the “100” mark against Al- dine and were forced to be happy with a 94-57 win. Mike Millegan paced the Ponies with a tre- mendous first half scoring rampage and wound up with 21 points for the night. Finding it hard to play Aldine and the referees, Millegan fouled yt in the fourth quarter along with teammate Jerry Kroll who was contained to only 11 points. (left) Jerry Kroll hits for two against Aldine. 275
