ROBERT BONNER Scholarship German Math The only triple-honor selectee to be named this year, Robert (right) attributes his outstanding scholastic suc- cess to “hard work and luck.” Ability, however, has also been a factor in his being made the recipient of numerous awards. He was one of 300 national winners in the Westinghouse Science Honor group, a National Merit finalist, and he placed second in the National Math exam last year. In school, Robert is a member of Mu Alpha Theta, SAPS, German Club, and the National Honor Society. For relaxation, he enjoys artistic welding. LELAND WINSTON Athletics ‘Because of his fine athletic and scholastic ability, Leland (right) has been chosen to receive commenda- tion as an outstanding athlete. He was captain of this year’s football team and received the Fighting Heart Award at the football banquet in January. Besides foot- ball, which he “really enjoys,” Leland also likes to hunt and play golf. As a member of the Key Club, SAPS, and Mu Alpha Theta, and treasurer of Wranglers, he keeps a busy schedule. Leland, who has been granted a scholarship to Rice University, plans to attend medical school after college. HUGH BROWN Science An all-around interest in science led to Hugh’s (right) being named one of the 300 honor winners in the National Westinghouse Scholarship Search and to his selection as this year’s science honor student at Memo- rial.
