This year the Memorial Markettes presented many outstand- ing halftime performances including jazz, patriotic, and western numbers, a salute to District 10-4A, and combined shows with Spring Woods and Spring Branch High Schools. With three out-of-town games on the schedule, the drill team set the pace for its year’s activities with an overnight trip to Corpus Christi in September. Last summer, twenty members attended the SMU Drill Team and Pep Squad School in Dallas where they won first place in routines for the advanced class. Other Markette activities included promoting school spirit and selling pep ribbons, school calendars, and Christmas cards. At the awards banquet, held at Memorial Drive Country Club January 29, year pins and other awards were given, the graduating charter members were recognized, and the Best All-Around. Markette was announced. A formal dance was given for the Markettes on February 20 at Sharpstown Country Club as a brilliant climax to a fun-filled year. BEST ALL-AROUND MARKETTE: Cynthia Yancey

Each week during the football season cheerleaders held pep rallies in the gym to pro- Miss Judy Hobbs, Sponsor mote school spirit. Last summer they exhibited their skills when they placed first in their bracket at the annual cheerleader’s conference at SMU.
